Writer. Data Nerd. Based in Spain.

I'm Alex Carter.
I track what happens when people move abroad.

Four years. 1,200+ cases. 14+ countries. The data behind the biggest decisions people make — and what happens next.

Alex Carter — writer and data researcher tracking expat outcomes across 14+ countries

How I Work

I'm not an expert in one narrow field. I'm a researcher who goes deep. When I write about the cost of living in Thailand, I use data from real people — not Numbeo estimates. When I write about Spanish bureaucracy, I've lived it. When I compare visa options across 14 countries, every number is trackable.

I started tracking American expat outcomes in 2022. What began as personal curiosity — I moved to Spain and started noticing patterns — became a systematic research operation. Today I cover relocation data across 4 continents.

My readers come back because I don't guess. I find the data, verify the patterns, and write it in a way that respects your time.

How I Work

Methodology

Data First

Every claim is backed by tracked cases. No anecdotes without numbers. No numbers without methodology.

Street-Level Verification

Government data tells part of the story. Interviews, community observation, and case tracking tell the rest.

Transparent & Independent

Every recommendation comes from personal experience. When I link to a tool or service, it’s because I use it. Some links are affiliate — I’m transparent about that. My research is independent. The data is the data.
