Moving to Spain: The Printable Checklist (2026)
Free 3-page checklist for the Spanish Non-Lucrative Visa from the US: every document the consulate checks, the three that expire, and a month-by-month countdown.
Most Spain visa files don't fail on money. They fail on a date: an FBI check that turned six months old while the apostille was in the mail, a medical certificate from four months ago, a policy with a copay.
This checklist puts the whole Non-Lucrative Visa file on one page, with a box to tick and a line for the date each document was issued. The second page is the countdown, from six months before you fly to your first renewal. The third is where files die, and where to check the rules yourself.
Everything in it was checked against the Spanish consulates' own pages in September 2026.
Who it's for
Americans applying for Spain's Non-Lucrative Visa from the United States, alone or as a couple, who want to file without a lawyer or check a lawyer's work. It assumes you apply at the Spanish consulate that covers your state of residence, which is where most of the timing problems start.
It doesn't replace the consulate's own list. Requirements differ slightly between consulates, and each one updates its page without notice, so the checklist links to where to confirm every item.
From the book
The checklist comes from Moving to Spain: The Honest Guide: three real 2026 budgets for Valencia, Málaga and Madrid, the wealth-tax map, healthcare after sixty, the Modelo 720 that catches Americans, and what to do if Spain doesn't work out.
