Mexico Residency Income Requirements by Consulate (2026)
Free spreadsheet: the income and savings floors six Mexican consulates publish for temporary and permanent residency, next to the federal UMA formula they're meant to follow.
Mexico's consulate in New York asks a would-be temporary resident to show $4,200 a month. San Diego asks $4,510. Same visa, same federal rule. For permanent residency as a retiree, Calexico asks $6,797 a month and the embassy in Washington MXN 139,400.
None of these figures start in dollars. The 2025 federal visa guidelines count in days of UMA: more than 680 UMA days a month for temporary residency on income, more than 1,140 for a retiree's permanent residency. At the 2026 UMA of 117.31 pesos, that's MXN 79,770.80 and MXN 133,733.40.
The first sheet has one row per consulate: route, income floor, savings floor, the unit the consulate counts in, the date on its document and the fee, with the source link and the day it was checked (October 18, 2026). The second sheet holds the federal formula with the UMA and the exchange rate in yellow cells. Type in a new rate, or next February's UMA, and the peso and dollar floors recalculate.
